Hugh Fraser is a winner of two Juno Awards. Living in Victoria, BC, Canada he writes his jazz. Live performances are incredible because Hugh puts so much energy into his music. That energy definately comes across to the listener in this album. It's always evident when Hugh's enjoying his music and trying to make you feel it - and feel it you can. If you ever get a chance to see Hugh Fraser live in concert, I suggest you do it. If you cant, then this CD is definately the next best thing. How does Hugh Fraser write his wonderful music you ask? When he starts writing, he says he will get so far into the music that he becomes a different person.... or at least the same person, but very "out of it". When he's in the middle of writing a great song, such as one you might hear on this CD, he may be in a trance where he's always thinking of the music. During the writing of one of his songs, he's had one of his (musician) friends come over. The friend was fairly worried about him because he seemed so out of it, and he asked Hugh if he was okay... but of course as soon as the song was completed, Hugh was back to normal (or at least as normal as he gets). So if you're wondering why Hugh's live shows are filled with so much energy, its because his songs are filled with so much soul. So when you listen to this CD, try and feel some of what Hugh was feeling during the concert. I guarantee, you'll be quite impressed.
